Maritime Dossier (“we”, “us”) is edited by Capt. Gaurav Khanna. This page explains what information we collect from visitors to maritimedossier.com, why, and what your options are.

1. What we collect

The short version: we collect nothing from readers, apart from what you choose to send us in a comment or an email.

  • Comments: if you leave a comment, we receive the name, email address and optional website you enter, and the text of your comment. Your email address is not shown publicly. WordPress also records your IP address and browser details with the comment, as it does on every WordPress site.
  • Email: if you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write.
  • Server logs: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) that are generated automatically when anyone visits a website.

We do not run a newsletter, reader accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we do not collect payment information.

2. How we use it

  • To publish and moderate comments. Comments from first-time commenters are held for approval.
  • To reply to emails sent to us.

We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising targeting.

3. Third-party services

  • Gravatar. If you comment, the site may show a profile picture from Gravatar, a service of Automattic, based on a one-way hash of your email address. You can control that picture at gravatar.com.
  • Links to other sites, such as LinkedIn, lead to services with their own privacy policies.

If we add any other service that handles visitor data, we will list it here first.

4. Cookies

We do not use analytics or advertising cookies. If you leave a comment and tick the box to save your details, WordPress stores your name, email address and website in cookies in your browser for about a year so you do not have to retype them. If you leave the box unticked, nothing is stored. Site editors also have login cookies, which readers do not.

5. Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, including any comment you have left, or ask us to stop using it. To do any of this, contact us at the address below.

6. Children’s privacy

Maritime Dossier is a professional industry publication and is not directed at, or knowingly collecting data from, children.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top will always reflect the most recent revision.

Questions about this policy or your data: editor@maritimedossier.com

This is a plain-language policy for a small independent publication, not legal advice. If you plan to add analytics, ads, a newsletter or anything else that handles reader data, it’s worth having a lawyer review this before you rely on it — particularly for compliance with data protection law in the regions your readers are in.
