Editorial standards and corrections

Last updated: 7 October 2026

Maritime Dossier is built to be useful to people running ships, fleets and claims. This page explains how we decide what to publish, how we handle sources and conflicts of interest, and what happens when we get something wrong.

What we publish

We publish analysis and commentary by practising seafarers and shore-side professionals. We do not report breaking news. Opinion is presented as opinion, and where an article makes a factual claim, we expect it to be backed by a source or by the author’s stated experience.

Sources

Where we can, we work from primary sources: regulations, circulars, standards, published reports, and audit or inspection frameworks. Where an article relies on published sources, it lists them at the end so readers can check them. Where an author has not used a product or method first-hand, the article says so. Where an example comes from real audits or incidents, ships, companies and individuals are anonymised unless the information is already public.

Independence

Maritime Dossier is independent. There is currently no advertising, sponsored content or paid placement, and nothing is published in exchange for payment, gifts or favours. No contributor is paid. The site is hosted by Vraga Ventures Pvt Ltd, of which the editor is a director.

Conflicts of interest

The editor also founded VragaMarine, a maritime safety consultancy, and is involved in The Sarcastic Mariner, a separate satirical site. Contributors’ profiles state their current roles. Where an article discusses the work, clients or employer of the editor or a contributor, or a product or service in which they have a commercial interest, it will say so.

Contributors and editing

Contributors write in their own right, keep authorship credit, and confirm that their work is original. The editor reads every piece before publication and may ask for changes. Articles are edited for length and clarity. They are not independently fact-checked, and each article remains the responsibility of its author (see the Disclaimer).

Use of tools

Authors may use tools, including AI assistants, to help with research, drafting or editing. The named author reviews and approves every article and is responsible for it.

Corrections

If you spot an error, tell us at editor@maritimedossier.com. We will check it and correct confirmed errors promptly. Where a correction changes the meaning of an article, we add a dated note at the foot of the piece saying what changed. Minor fixes, such as typos, are made without a note. We will not quietly remove material that was wrong; we will correct it and say so.
